Dogs - "Clean" or "Unclean?" What Say You?!
Hey-oh, Call here again studying human behaviour. Today I was browsing through good ol' Wikipedia while taking a, well . . . while pooping (yes I take my laptop outside with me on cloudy days) my paw hit a key accidentally and up popped this article entitled "Unclean Animals."
It seems humans in different cultures view certain animals (like dogs for instance) as "unclean."
I've always thought of myself as a clean being myself. (Well, except that time I rolled in that dead badger downtown Frostbite Falls outside of FleeBee's Malts and Hardware store.)
What do you think about all of this? Do you consider any animals "unclean?"
And hey, I wonder if that dead badger I found would be considered "unclean?" I didn't see any cloven hooves or anything on him but my humans sure thought I was the uncleanest thing in the universe after I rolled in him last summer . . .

I say only humans are unclean. and that's only when they use prejudice and not their own brains to understand the world around them. But hey that's just me Cal, and I'm sure a lot of folks in certain cultures would consider me and my friends evil and unclean.

Whoa! Who would have ever thought? That is so strange that our humans love us and do not think we are unclean (unless we are dirt or sprayed by a skunk like I was the other day) but in other cultures some people will go as far as to say we are evil! EEEEVVVIIILLL! Thats sad that some people drive off their animals with no food and water! However, it is nice to see that some cultures will never sell their dogsand will only give them away as "special" gifts. Thats the way it should be! =D
Anyway, I think they are CRAZY! What is their logic behind this? *lol*
Hey,
I simply loved your blog! Mummy said that as soon she finishes today's tasks she will let me to seat by the computer to see more of your blog!
I'm goig to link your blog to mine, may I?
Kind liks,

Fe-lyings are the "unclean" ones! I mean, you've seen how they paw around in that litter pan then lick themselves silly. They should all have to wear bells on their collars so we'll know they're comin' Un-cleeeeaaann! Un-cleeeeaaann!
Jack, dude - good points about humans and how they should all think. Crazy is as crazy poops I always think.
Raisa, link away you wild maniac. I really love your latest blog entry where you keep those groceries in line and in their bags before they go into the Siberian thingy-ma-bopper.
Harrison, as always, you speak for the dog in all animals when you say that walking around in pooped on kitty litter and then licking your paws is just plain wrong.
And I agree with all of you when I bark a nice clean animal "Ahhhhhhrooooooooooooooo!!!"
Cal
Hey Cal,
Of course we are clean. I'm lickin' myself all the time. And then I lick my humans so they are clean. And then my secretary brushes my teeth. I'm a clean AND cleanin' machine.
Woof! (My tongue is tired!)

We kinda think "clean" is a state of mind! Yep! Tee hee! Well, sometimes we get a bit messy but Mommy says so what? Physical grime can so easily be washed away but cleansing the soul is another matter entirely...and Mommy says we are pure of spirit! We think you are too Cal!!
Purrs & headbutts!

We might be a little stinky at times, but my mommy still gives me kisses! She wouldn't kiss a dirty animal, now would she??

Well, I do sometimes think the smell at the zoo is awful, but I am never sure whether it is created by the animals or whether maybe the humans haven't cleaned their living-environment too well? Does your owner put you in a bath now and then, Cal? And do you like it? And is the water then cold, hot, or lukewarm?
Rolling in carcasses just shows good dog sense. But computing while pooping? I think that could be considered unclean.
Well dogs are unclean until bath time, just like humans right? =)
Hank, I was waiting for someone to mention that!
Carmel - you are soooo right.
Astrid - Yes, baths once a year whether I need them or not.
Cal
I would probably agree that dead badgers are unclean and make for poor playmates, but I can't call any other animal unclean considering the filth I have seen many humans living in.
Thanks,
